Please complete this short registration form. It also has some benefits:

• You will receive a serial number by e-mail. With it your VEDIT for Windows trial version is fully functional for 30 days. Otherwise, each time you run VEDIT, it is limited to 2000 keystrokes before you must exit (you can save or abandon your changes).
• You can ask any questions, or explain your application, and we will give you a prompt reply and suggestions, typically within a few hours.

We will only send a brief follow-up e-mail in 1 - 2 weeks, and one more in 2 - 3 months. (We will not share your info with anyone else. We will not pester you!)

VEDIT PLUS Trial Version Download

Notes

The 32-Bit Windows Trial version expires 30 days after installation or after 20 days of usage, whichever is longer. You can convert (activate) the trial version into the full version by entering the serial number which you will receive when you order on-line or by phone.

The VEDIT User's Manual (384 pages) and the VEDIT PLUS Macro Language Reference Manual (288 pages) are available as Adobe Acrobat .PDF files. See the instructions below.

If you have trouble downloading these files, it may be due to Internet congestion or a firewall at your company's Internet connection. Please try the following:

• The download page includes a second (mirror) site from which you can try downloading.
• In case of a firewall, try downloading using another Internet connection.
• If you cannot download the vpw-prod.exe file, try the vpw-prod.zip file; some firewalls do not allow downloading .EXE files.
• As a last resort, we can e-mail you the file(s).

Instructions for .EXE files

VPW-PROD.EXE or VPA-PROD.EXE   (Windows Trial version):

1. After downloading VPW-PROD.EXE or VPA-PROD.EXE, run it. (It is a self-extracting .ZIP file) In the welcome dialog box, select "Setup" to start the installation.

2. VEDIT will then start! Instead of using a traditional installation program, VEDIT installs itself using a very flexible "macro".

3. In the first dialog box, you may want to select [Readme] for an introduction to installing and getting started with VEDIT.
   
   Then select [Install] to install the Windows version of VEDIT.
   
   If you downloaded the larger VPA-PROD.EXE file, you will have the option of installing the VEDIT manuals as on-line .PDF files.

4. In the next dialog box, select [Trial] to quickly install it as a trial version. Primarily, you just select the installation directory. The default is c:\vedit, but you can enter c:\Program Files\vedit or any other directory.

5. By default, VEDIT is installed into the Windows "Registry" as a Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP program. After installation, you can associate VEDIT with any desired file-types by selecting the menu item {CONFIG, Associate file types}. Once associated, you can then simply double-click a file to quickly open it in VEDIT.

Instructions for .ZIP files

VPW-PROD.ZIP   (Windows Trial version):

You must have WinZip, ZipMagic, Pkunzip, or a similar program to "unzip" the file after downloading it. If you are not familiar with .ZIP files, you should download and install the VPW-PROD.EXE file instead.

1. After downloading VPW-PROD.ZIP, you must first unzip it.

   • With WinZip or ZipMagic, open the ".ZIP" file and select the "Install" function or icon. This extracts the files into a temporary directory and runs the "setup" program to start the installation. (The temporary files are then automatically deleted after the installation is done.)

   • With Pkunzip for Windows, open the ".ZIP" file and first extract the file into a temporary directory such as "c:\temp". Next, run the "setup" program to start the installation.
     
     Note: Just double-clicking the "setup.exe" file in the Pkunzip window before extracting the files does not work. In our opinion, Pkunzip for Windows is more difficult to use than WinZip or ZipMagic.

2. Continue with steps 2, 3, 4 and 5 above for the VPW-PROD.EXE file.

VPD-PROD.ZIP  (DOS Trial version):

You must have Pkunzip, WinZip, ZipMagic or a similar program to "unzip" the file after downloading it.

1. After downloading VPD-PROD.ZIP, you must unzip it with Pkunzip, WinZip, ZipMagic or a similar program. With Pkunzip for DOS, download the ".ZIP" file to a temporary directory, change to the temporary directory and extract the files with the command:

   pkunzip vpd-prod.zip

2. Change to temporary directory and give the command "read-me" for installation directions.

3. Run the "install" command to install the DOS version. If you are installing both the Windows and DOS versions, we highly suggest installing both into the same directory.

VM-PDF.ZIP and VPM-PDF.ZIP  (Manuals as Adobe .PDF files):

The VEDIT User's Manual (384 pages) and the VEDIT PLUS Macro Language Reference Manual (288 pages) are available as Adobe Acrobat .PDF files. If you do not have the Acrobat reader, it is available free of charge from the Adobe web site (www.adobe.com).

1. After downloading each file, you must unzip it with WinZip, ZipMagic, Pkunzip or a similar program. You can simply unzip it into the same directory into which you installed VEDIT. The unzipping will create a .PDF file, corresponding to the VEDIT or VEDIT PLUS manual.

2. Run the Adobe Acrobat Reader and open the desired .PDF file.

NOTE: If you download the larger VPA-PROD.EXE file, the installation of the Windows version gives you the option of installing the VEDIT manuals as .PDF files and adding them to the VEDIT program group.

  FTP Access

If you prefer to download files using an ftp program, log into "ftp.vedit.com" with a User-ID of "anonymous". Then change to the directory "/pub" which contains most files.
